Michael began his composing career when, at age 18, he was offered a contract as a singer-songwriter with the Beatles’ record company Apple. His composing developed swiftly through song-writing to musical theatre and eventually to concert works for full symphony orchestra.

SUIT SUITE – String Quartet
Commissioned by Londinium IV, the string quartet from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the work was premiered in a concert at the church of St. Sepulchres-without-Newgate in London, where it received a standing ovation.

The work was then performed at a special concert at Henry Wood Hall as part of the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s ‘Behind The Scenes’ series where the comoser gave a talk about the work to a specially invited audience.

The success of these two concerts led to a CD recording of the work and other tracks by the composer were added as detailed below.

Premiered by The Docklands Sinfonia, conducted by Spencer Down, with Gregory Bennett Walsmley as the soloist.

This premiere performance was featured as part of the orchestra’s Sibelius anniversary concert.

Commissioned by Southend Council for their day on the ‘Our Town’ stage, the work was premiered in the Millennium Dome.
It was then staged again for a second performance at The Cliffs Pavilion.
An oratorio for soloists, chorus and orchestra to be performed in staged concert.
The piece tells the history of the town of Southend and its environs.

All music, lyrics, sung text and orchestration are by Michael Heath.
The work was devised by Michael Heath and Charles Sharman-Cox.

The piece is approximately 25 minutes long.
