DEVEREUX AND A ROYAL FLUSH

The second Devereux novel in the series.

In the fateful abdication year of 1936, Devereux receives a clandestine summons to the Houses of Parliament, where he is hired in secret to investigate the theft of personal letters that, if made public, could bring down the monarchy and the empire. With his close team of Rose Merriman and Ollie Jones, Devereux infiltrates the highest echelons of London society. Their enquiry constantly twists and turns through a convoluted path that exposes them to violence and major fraud. Set against the background of actual events of the period, this fascinating tale finally results in an extraordinary and unexpected revelation that must never be disclosed.

Michael Heath describes his inspiration and the writing process of this novel –

It was always my intention that Devereux should become a series of novels and that each story should reflect the events of the year in which it is set. The biggest event of 1936 was of course the abdication of the King. It was a political earthquake for the British establishment and had repercussions for the whole of Europe – so it was the obvious issue around which to weave my story. It served as the core of Devereux’s investigation and the background to his extensive and wide ranging case.

Reader’s Reviews

I really loved the first Devereux novel and have been patiently waiting for the next book in the series – and now at last it is here and it has been worth the wait! Once again, Mr Heath skilfully weaves his narrative in and around the real characters and events of the period. The writing brings the period and the characters stunningly to life and the plot twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the very end. Devereux and a Royal Flush is a wonderful story – I couldn’t put it down. And the third book in the series has also now been issued – I can’t wait to read it. If you love detective fiction and period stories you will love the Devereux series.” – Martha Bernhard
